Indian passport holders generally need a Mexican visa to visit the country. However, some travelers can enter Mexico without a separate Mexican visitor visa if they hold a valid qualifying multiple-entry visa or permanent residence document from countries such as the United States, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom or Schengen countries.
What Indians should know
- U.S. and Canadian visa holders: Some Indians with qualifying visas may be exempt from applying for a separate Mexican visitor visa.
- Purpose of travel: The exemption can apply to tourism, business or transit trips of less than 180 days.
- If you need a visa: You must schedule an appointment through the Mexican consular system before visiting the embassy.
- Visa fee: The visitor visa fee listed for August 2026 is ₹5,464.
- New Delhi: Applicants pay the visa fee using a QR-code process on the appointment day.
- Mumbai: The Mexican Consulate in Mumbai also handles visa applications for applicants within its jurisdiction.
- Students: Indians planning to study in Mexico for more than six months need a temporary-resident student visa.
- Documents: Applicants may be asked to provide supporting documents and attend an interview or biometric appointment.
- Important: Having a Mexican visa does not automatically guarantee entry. Mexican immigration officials make the final decision at the point of entry.

This update is particularly important for Indian residents of the United States and Canada who are planning a trip to Mexico. If you already have a qualifying U.S. or Canadian visa or residence document, you may be able to travel to Mexico without obtaining a separate visitor visa.
